Piano Tuning
I tuned pianos on the side for about 10 years in Birmingham, AL beginning around 2002 while doing various other jobs in music, audio, and theatre before shifting my focus solely to piano tuning and repair. My clients are happy with my work and I strive to constantly improve my skills and the services I offer.
I am a Registered Piano Technician (RPT). This means I have passed a series of rigorous examinations on the maintenance, repair, and tuning of pianos.
I know that in order to provide the best service to my clients I need to learn from those with more experience and keep up with current information in the field of piano technology. Because of this I joined the Piano Technicians Guild. I attend monthly meetings and continued education sessions, and I attend the PTG's Annual Convention and Technical Institute where I get the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized piano technicians including instructors from Yamaha, Kawai, and Grotrian.
I will treat your piano with care.
I will communicate with you honestly about your piano's needs.
I will listen carefully to your concerns and wishes for your piano's maintenance.
Music Education and Experience
I have a Master of Music degree in music composition from Birmingham-Southern College. I have worked both as a musician and in music technology for 25+ years. I used to record the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and edit/master those recordings for broadcast on 90.3 WBHM Birmingham Public Radio. I have arranged and written original music for organizations including Birmingham Children's Theatre, Songs for Sight, and Red Mountain Theatre Company (RMTC). I was the sound designer and soundboard operator for the majority of RMTC's productions from 2007 to 2013, and there I was also Music Director for Youth Programs and Production Manager for a few years. For a couple of years I was the sound designer for many productions at Virginia Samford Theatre. I have been the music director and/or performed (keyboard/piano) for productions at Terrific New Theatre, Birmingham Children's Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre Company, Birmingham-Southern College, and TheDane (Dane Peterson Theatre Series at Birmingham Festival Theatre).
Other
People say of me that I can recognize when I don't know how to do something and I will do whatever it takes to learn how to do it. I'm the kind of person who takes things apart to figure out how they work--and I take the time to put them back together right. I'm always interested in learning new things.
